God Time Devotions for Kids from June 3, 2012

Day 1

Read Luke 5:10

Jesus told Simon he didn’t have to be afraid; that He had a plan for Simon. He has
a plan for you too, so you don’t have to be afraid of what the future holds.

Find a scarf or other piece of cloth to use as a blindfold, and grab a parent to help you. Cover your eyes with the blindfold and have your parent lead you around the room. Then let go of your parent’s hands for a minute and try to walk a bit without their help—be sure they are ready to jump in and guide you before you hit any obstacles.

It’s a lot easier to hold tight to someone who loves you and can see the bigger picture, isn’t it?

Pray.  Thank God that He has a plan for you.

Day 2

Read Proverbs 16:9

Go get two different colored pens. Take a look at the maze below. Make a plan for how you will get through it. Take as long as you need. Now close your eyes and try to solve it without peeking.

Open your eyes. How did you do? Even with a plan, probably not so good, right?

Now, get someone to help you. While you close your eyes, using a different pen, ask that person to guide your hand through the maze. Open your eyes. How did you do this time? Hopefully much better, since you had someone guiding your way!

Even when do our best to make plans for the future and make wise decisions about which path to take, ultimately we need help. Good thing God is in control of our direction, because if we did it on our own, we’d probably make a mess of things!

Pray.  Ask God to guide your steps today as you learn to trust Him.

Day 3

Read Psalm 32:8

Have you ever had to make a huge decision that felt like a really big deal or a hard choice to make? Maybe you like to play two sports, but you only have time for one, so you have to pick. Or maybe you like to sing, but chorus is at the same time as band—which will you choose? And those decisions seem pretty easy compared to some things we have to decide—like will we let our friend look at our paper during a test, or will we watch a movie at a friend’s house when we know our parents told us not to watch it? Whether it’s a decision where there’s a clear right and wrong, or simply choosing what’s best between two good things, we can trust God to guide us on which way to go.
What decision do you need to ask God about today? Write it in the space below. Pray and talk to God about it. Ask Him to be clear and show you what to do next.
Pray.  Look to God for help and direction in your life every day with big and small things.

Day 4

Read Proverbs 3:5-6

If you were to make decisions all on your own, without knowing or caring what God had to say about things, how might you respond if…
Your teacher left the answers to the test out on the desk and no one else was around to see:
You were playing with your brother’s iPod® without asking, and you accidentally broke it:
But you DO care about what God says, and you trust that He wants only the best for you, right? So if you refuse to get back at someone who seems like your enemy, you might eventually gain a friend. If you don’t cheat when you have the chance, you won’t get in trouble! And if you ‘fess up to your brother about what happened, he might actually trust YOU again one day.
Trusting in God is always the right thing to do!
Pray.  Know that God’s way is the best way.
